EURO-CBI is underway

The EURO-CBI study aims to determine the optimal treatment strategy for Covert Brain Infarction (CBI)—asymptomatic brain infarcts detected on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Although clinically silent, CBIs are detected in approximately 10–30% of older individuals undergoing MRI examinations.

Despite their high prevalence, evidence-based recommendations for treatment are currently lacking. That's why we designed the EURO-CBI study.

The EURO-CBI study is a randomized clinical trial evaluating the effect of:

  1. cholesterol-lowering therapy,

  2. antithrombotic therapy,

  3. combination therapy, or

  4. no additional pharmacological treatment.

Participant recruitment has commenced at Aarhus University Hospital, with planned expansion to at least 20 neurological departments in Europe. The study aims to enroll 1,652 patients.

The trial is led by Ida Norup, MD, PhD candidate and PI Rolf Blauenfeldt, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary and international consortium of investigators.
